Under the direction of Director of Transportation, service and make major and minor mechanical repairs to school buses and other automotive and mechanical equipment; and to do related work as required. Knowledge of; methods and equipment used in the overhaul, repair and adjustment of automotive equipment and of fuel, ignition, electrical and cooling sstems; operation and care of internal combustion engines; methods and equipment used in the maintenance of other mechanical equipment. Ability to; diagnose motor trouble; make mechanical repairs; demonstrate skill in the use of shop tools. Must be able to obtain Class B License and School Bus Certificate. One year or more of journeyman-level experience in the repair of automotive and other power driven equipment. Air brake certification preferred.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:Overhauls and adjusts engines and clutches under proper supervision, tunes and reconditions engines, cleans, repairs and replaces carburetors, fuel pumps, strainers, fuel lines, fuel tanks and gauges; wires and repairs electrical systems, adjusts spark plugs, recharges batteries, repairs and replaces lights and switches, relines and adjusts brakes, repairs water pumps and hoses, installs axles, performs other shop work incidental to mechanical repairs, performs maintenance and repair work on other mechanical equipment, keeps records of time and materials used and work performed, may weld and operate a lathe, locates and orders parts and supplies and assists Mechanic II in fulfilling duties including keeping transportation facility clean and orderly.
